Images and Impressions of Donny Wilcox

I have always been fascinated by the reflections of our landscape in the seas and lochs around Scotland. My favourite time of the day is during the early hours of the morning or late evening when the wind quiets and the water stills to reveal a perfect inverted image of its surroundings.

I scan along the line between the real and the reflected looking for balanced shapes and harmonious tones to inspire my imagination and make my compositions.

Perhaps it’s when, looking through the eye of my lens, the symmetry of the scene soothes my racing mind and I am listening to the silence surrounding me that I feel at one with the land.  The moment is revealed and I press the shutter button.

One thing that Im certain, it just happens, devoid of thought, free from the dictates of rules, in my minds eye... its only me.

However, as in real life, where I have found that nothing is ever perfect, I often break the symmetry by including the "zen" in the foreground of the reflected surface.

A rock, a stick, a bird or a fish ring .. it matters not as long as its not perfect .. a reflection of me ?

Once the shutter is released, I often complement the photograph with a watercolour painting, to truely replicate the scene in my own unique artistic style.

Thanks for your interest and I hope you enjoy your Visual Visit to some memorable moments from my mind's eye
